What is Rotary?
Our members are men and women of all ages who use their knowledge and experience to help others. They volunteer their time to serve their local communities, arranging events, running educational programmes, and organising competitions in music, dance, cookery and more to help young people improve their skills.
We make a difference. Every Rotarian gives something back to the community and makes some great friends along the way.
We champion communities that want to make a positive difference to people’s lives. From small, local communities to big, global ones.
The 51,000 British and Irish members of Rotary share a common interest in friendship, and along the way, having fun in raising millions of pounds, all to support other people. We are united worldwide to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all areas and help build goodwill and peace in the world.
We Support National & International Projects
Sometimes we partner with organisations or other Rotary Clubs here and abroad to maximise our impact. ‘End Polio Now’ is a magnificent project in which Rotary across the world is supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. When Rotary embarked on a seemingly impossible mission to eliminate this dreadful disease there were 1000 new cases every single day. Now there are just a handful a year – so we have nearly completed the task.
The Clubs have also supported projects in Africa such as Sand Dams and Send a Cow which receives contributions from many of the 1.2 million Rotarians across the globe. We have also helped put toilets in remote villages in Peru, a charity in Pakistan to rebuild flood-affected schools, and a number of other life-changing projects.
